I have sung this song over and over in my life but until I needed God’s mercies to be new every morning I never felt the depths of these words. I am finding that true of so many things including scripture and songs. So today I will sing of God’s faithfulness in the face of my unfaithfulness. I will sing of His pardon when I can’t pardon myself. I will think of His strength when I find that I have very little. I will sing of His hope for tomorrow realizing that my hope comes and goes and can be affected by the actions of others. “There is no shadow of turning with Thee. . . Great is Thy faithfulness Lord unto. . . me. How could it be that I never really knew God or understood the depth of His presence?
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not,
As Thou has been, Thou forever wilt be.Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sum, moon and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness,
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
“Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!”
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided,
“Great is Thy faithfulness,” Lord unto me!
